If this sounds familiar
He needs a fringe trim and a sanitary tidy and the groomer can't fit him in for three weeks.
Your last clipper died halfway through, with half a dog done and nothing to finish with.
You're spending sixty pounds a visit on something that's mostly ten minutes of work.
Why you'll love it
The worst thing a clipper can do is stop halfway, with your dog half-finished and no appointment for a fortnight.
Never stops mid-groom
Runs cordless or plugged straight in. A flat battery is an inconvenience rather than a half-finished dog and an emergency appointment.
You can see the battery
A level display rather than guessing. 1200mAh, so you know before you start whether there's enough for the whole job.
Set the length before you start
Guide combs from 3mm to 12mm clip on over the blade, so the length is decided by the comb instead of by your eye and a steady hand.
Comes with the bits you'd otherwise buy
Combs, charging cable, cleaning brush and blade lubricant in the box. The oil matters more than it sounds - an unoiled blade runs hot and dulls fast.

for regular home use
Guide combs run from 3mm to 12mm, so you set the length before you start rather than judging it by eye. The clipper itself suits dogs and cats of most sizes — what it isn't suitable for is a double-coated breed, where clipping damages the coat permanently. See below.
Great for
- Tidy-ups between professional grooms - face, feet, sanitary areas
- Poodles, doodles, bichons and other continuously growing coats
- Terriers and short single-coated breeds
- Owners who want the clipper to keep going when the battery runs out
- Cats with long coats needing matted patches taken out
- Anyone spending on a groomer for ten minutes of work
Not ideal for
- Double-coated breeds - Huskies, German Shepherds, Golden Retrievers, Corgis, Pomeranians. Clipping damages the coat and it may never grow back properly.
- Badly matted coats. Brush it out or have a groomer take it off - never clip through a mat.
- Full body clips on a large dog. A 7W motor is built for tidying, not for shearing a Newfoundland.
- Nervous dogs who have not been introduced to the noise first.
- Anyone expecting salon results first time. Start with the feet and the sanitary area, not the face.

What to know before you clip a dog at home
Never shave a double-coated breed
Huskies, German Shepherds, Golden Retrievers, Corgis and Pomeranians have a protective outer coat over an insulating undercoat. Clipping cuts through both, and the guard hairs often grow back patchy, woolly, or not at all. It also makes the dog hotter rather than cooler, because the undercoat insulates against heat as well as cold. If you are not certain what coat your dog has, ask before you clip anything.
Blades get hot, and skin burns
Clipper burn is the most common home-grooming injury and the easiest to avoid. Touch the blade to the inside of your wrist every few minutes. If it is uncomfortable there it is painful on a dog, and the thin skin of the belly and sanitary area burns first. Stop, let it cool, carry on.
Brush before you clip, every single time
A mat sits away from the body and pulls the skin up with it, which means a blade can cut skin without you feeling any resistance. Brush the coat out to the skin first. A mat that will not brush out gets cut away with scissors held flat, or left for a groomer.
What to leave to a professional
Full body clips on a big dog, anything on a dog who panics at the noise, a badly matted coat, and faces until you have had plenty of practice elsewhere. Using this for the trims between visits saves real money. Using it instead of a groomer entirely usually does not.

Questions
Before you order
Can I use it on my Husky or Golden Retriever?
No, and please do not. Double-coated breeds have a protective outer coat over an insulating undercoat, and clipping cuts through both. The guard hairs often grow back patchy or woolly, sometimes never properly, and the dog ends up hotter rather than cooler. Deshedding tools are what those coats need.
Does it work while it's charging?
Yes - it runs cordless or plugged straight in, which is the main reason to choose this one. A flat battery halfway through stops being a problem.
What's the difference between the two blade versions?
[CONFIRM WITH SUPPLIER - the listing says both blades are included but the variant asks you to choose. Do not publish until answered.]
How is this different from your paw trimmer?
The paw trimmer has a narrow rounded head for the hair between the pads and nothing else. This is a body clipper with guide combs for trimming coat to a set length. Most people doing regular grooming end up wanting both.
My dog is frightened of the noise.
Switch it on across the room, then nearer, then rest the back of it against his shoulder before it ever touches coat. Several short sessions over a week. Do not try to push through it - a dog who learns to fear the clipper stays that way.
How do I stop the blade getting hot?
Oil it every few sessions with the lubricant provided, brush the clippings out after every use, and check the blade against your wrist every few minutes while you work. Dry, clogged blades are what run hot.
Can I use it on a cat?
Yes, for taking out matted patches on a long-haired cat. Go slowly and in very short sessions - cats give less warning than dogs when they have had enough.
