That's the thing worth knowing before you buy, because the two sides don't run out together. 2300ml of dry food is roughly two weeks for one cat. 1000ml of water is about four days for that same cat, and far less for a dog. So treat this as something that saves you the daily top-up, not something that covers a long absence. Water is the side to watch.

These durations are worked out from the stated capacities and typical intake - around 60g of food and 220ml of water a day for an average adult cat. Your own pet's intake decides it. The physical dimensions aren't confirmed yet, so measure your space before ordering if it's tight.
Simple to use
Fill it, show them, then check the water daily.
Wash both sides first
Rinse the hopper and the bowl and dry them fully before the first fill. Dry food into the food side only - anything else will clog the channel.
Let them find the new bowl
Put it where the old bowls were, not somewhere new, and leave the old bowl alongside for a day or two. Some pets are wary of the noise kibble makes when it slides down, and that passes faster if they haven't also had to go looking for it.
Check the water, not the food
The food side will look fine for a fortnight, which is exactly why the water catches people out. Make the water half the thing you glance at, and rinse it while you're there.

What a gravity feeder can and can't do
Free-feeding and cats
An indoor cat left with a full bowl will usually eat to the bowl rather than to appetite, and that's the main route into feline obesity, with diabetes and joint trouble behind it. Dogs tend to be steadier. If you have a cat who cleans the bowl the moment it's filled, this is the wrong tool and a measured twice-a-day feed is the right one.
Why the water half matters more
A pet can miss a meal without much happening. A pet without water for a day is a different problem - dehydration shows up quickly, and in cats it puts strain on the kidneys. That's why the 1000ml side is the one to build a habit around, even though the food side is the one that looks impressive.
Standing water goes off
Water sitting in a plastic reservoir develops a film within a couple of days, faster in a warm room, and kibble dust drifting over from the food side feeds it. Rinsing the water half every day or two is the difference between a feeder your pet keeps using and one they quietly start avoiding.
Why not a powered feeder
A timed feeder portions properly, which is the one thing gravity can't do. But it needs power or batteries, and its failure mode is worse - a jammed or dead feeder means no food at all, whereas a gravity feeder that stops flowing still has a full bowl sitting underneath it. Choose gravity for simplicity, a timer for control.

Care & maintenance
Rinse the water side every day or two - standing water builds a film, and kibble dust from the food side speeds that up. Wash the food hopper in warm soapy water and dry it completely before refilling, because damp kibble clogs the channel and goes off. Don't put it in the dishwasher unless the manual says you can.

Before you order
Can I use wet food in it?
No - dry kibble only. Wet and raw food won't slide down the channel and will spoil sitting in the hopper. If your pet is on wet food, this isn't the right feeder for you.
Can I go away for a week and leave this out?
Not safely. The food side would last, but the water holds 1000ml - roughly four days for a cat and under two for a medium dog. Water is the limit here, not food. For a trip, you still need someone checking in.
My cat eats everything I put down. Will this make her fat?
Probably, yes. Gravity keeps the bowl full, so there's nothing to stop her. If your cat doesn't self-regulate - and most don't - measured meals are better for her, and we'd rather tell you that than sell you the wrong thing.
Does it need batteries or plugging in?
Neither. It's gravity fed, so there's nothing to charge and nothing to fail while you're out. That's the main advantage it has over a timed feeder.
How often does it need cleaning?

Will my dog push it around?
The wide base and non-slip feet are enough for cats and most small to medium dogs. A large or determined dog may still shift it - we don't have a confirmed unit weight yet, so treat that as untested.
